Principal Letter to Parents
8/6/24
Dear Firebird Nation,
Welcome to the 2024 – 2025 school year. I am excited to welcome our learners back to school. I trust you had a restful summer and created beautiful memories with your loved ones. It’s now time to embrace an outstanding new school year.
School of the Future is an exceptional learning environment for growth and education. We take pride in being a true STEAM School, integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math to foster student inquiry, discussion, and problem-solving. Our vision for the School of the Future is encapsulated in the acronym FIRE: Focus, Innovation, Resilience, and Evolution. By embracing these principles, students will be well-prepared to excel in the 21st-century job market. We remain committed to creating a challenging and inclusive educational setting, where every student is supported and motivated to reach their full potential, with our primary objective being to promote lifelong engagement and a passion for learning.
Partnering with families will be crucial this year. Your involvement is not just welcomed, but integral to your child’s education. We will encourage families to stay connected and informed by following our school website https://sof.philasd.org/ and checking their email for important updates and information regarding events throughout the school year. We will also incorporate the parent academy, allowing parents and legal guardians to understand what your learner is learning. We will offer various Parent Academy programs throughout the year, such as using a computer to access the parent portal, checking your learner’s grades, and understanding the new English and Math program better.
If you want to attend your learner’s grade-level orientation meetings, please complete the hyperlinked Google Sheet forms at the bottom of this letter. The cost of Future wear that we will be selling online at S.O.F. will be T-shirts, which cost- $10; Polos, which will be $15; and sweatshirts, which will be $30. All orders can be made online on our school website. For learners to attend trips and specific events, they need to make sure that they purchase Future gear.
I encourage all students, parents, and caregivers to join one of the S.O.F. orientations to receive critical information about school expectations and new instructional programs for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. We will maintain our focus on social-emotional learning and the advisory model to foster a strong school community while delivering grade-level content.
