Departmental Competency Awards

The competency of Valuing Diversity requires learners to support equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all; and foster a climate, where diverse thoughts are freely shared and integrated. The winner of this award is chosen by the History Department.

The competency of Drive for Results requires learners to pursue everything with energy, drive, and a need to finish. Learners with this competency do not give up before finishing, even in the face of resistance or setbacks. The winner of this award is chosen by the Special Education Department.

The competency of Oral and Written Communications Skills requires a learner to be effective in

a variety of formal and informal presentation settings; command attention during a presentation and in writing; be cognizant of the audience and adapt content and style accordingly; and write clearly in a variety of communication settings and styles. The winner of this award is chosen by the English Department.

The competency of Managing through Processes and Systems requires learners to implement practices, processes, and procedures necessary to get things done; simplify complex processes; and work to create systems. The winner of this award is chosen by the Math Department.

The competency of Creativity requires generating new and unique ideas and making connections. The winners of this award are chosen by the Fine Arts Department.

Creativity in Art requires an eye for color, form, and composition as well as the ability to put together a body of work that moves people to see the beauty of this world.
Creativity in Music requires an ear for appreciating the beauty of melody and harmony as well as the ability to blend their talent with the talents of others to create soul-bearing art.

The competency of Decision Quality and Problem Solving requires analysis, wisdom, experience, and logical methods to make decisions and solve difficult problems. The winner of this award is chosen by the Science Department.

The competency of Learning on the Fly requires quick learning when facing new problems; analysis of successes and failures; and enjoying the challenge of unfamiliar tasks. The winner of this award is chosen by the World Language Department.

The competency of Managing Relationships requires learners to be cooperative team players and solve problems for the good of all. The winner of this award is chosen by the Counseling Department.

The competency of Dealing with Ambiguity requires coping with change; shifting gears comfortably; and handling risk and uncertainty. The winner of this award is chosen by the Technology Department.

The competency of Personal Learning and Development requires a commitment to one’s sense of self and fulfilling their potential. It is presented to a senior who has distinguished themself by excellence in their Senior Project.  The winner of this award is chosen by the Senior Project Coordinators.

The Scholar-Athlete Award requires learners to be at their best on the field or court and in the classroom. They can balance the rigor of academic excellence with their responsibility to their team. The winner of this award is chosen by the Athletic Director.
